Fivetran switched from account-level to connector-level MAR billing in March 2025, eliminating bulk discounts. Teams with multiple data sources saw costs rise significantly, and the billing logic is harder to predict than ever.
Per-connector billing removed bulk discounts. Previously, total MAR was pooled across all connectors. Now each source is billed separately on its own cost curve, increasing costs for teams running multiple integrations.
Three separate billing meters. Fivetran now charges across connection MAR, activation MAR, and transformation MMR independently, making monthly spend difficult to forecast and audit.
Transformations still require an external tool. Fivetran does not include a built-in transformation engine. Data teams must run dbt separately, adding a second licence, second tool, and additional engineering overhead.
